Betty Jackson

Betty Jackson has always been inspired by artists and painters. Initially her idea was to put the paintings that inspired her onto cloth and cut them into clothes. As each one was cut from a different piece of cloth, each one would be unique and in that way, the piece of clothing would become a work of art in its own right. Although the silhouette of her clothes has changed radically since the early eighties, she remains strongly inspired by the visual arts as far as mood is concerned.

She has always believed that clothes should perform for the wearer in any given situation, and loves the idea that the outfit you choose at the beginning of the day should take you effortlessly through to the evening, simply by changing your accessories.

For AW09 prints are inspired by Arthur Rackham and the graphic illustrations of the director Tim Burton, presenting a contrast of textures and clashing surrealism. Predominant colours are Chestnut, Forest Green, Slate and Black, highlighted with bitter Primrose, Winter Sky Blue, Emerald and Sulphur. The silhouette is elongated with volumes created by pleats and tucks, in luxurious fabrics of Mohair, Shetland, Cashmere, velvet and Fur, mixed with more sleek and tailored crepe, jersey and taffeta creating an exciting fusion of fabrics and colours.
