Felix Rey

Felix Rey was created in March 2001, when friends Lily Rafil and Sulaika Zarrouk decided to design accessories for the smart and stylish girl-about town, one who longs for colourful bags that add the perfect finishing touch to any outfit and excessive collection of shoes. Lily and Sulaika know all to well from personal experience that their customer had probably gone a tad over-budget on one too many Manicures and Manolos, so the duo set out to offer affordable luxury in their handbag.

Both flea market aficionados, Lily and Sulaika enjoy spending countless hours hunting for unique finds. Their accessories take a fresh and feminine approach to vintage inspiration, including touches such as bows, ruffles and hearts. Felix Rey accessories are in a class of their own – it’s no wonder that the collection had been touted as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” meets “Sex and the City.” It is perfectly suited for the modern girl with a whimsical flair for style.

So, who is Felix Rey? As Lily and Sulaika were strolling about a Van Gogh exhibition (cultural fulfilment is a must for any smart, stylish girl), the twosome noticed a remarkable portrait of the doctor who treated Van Gogh when he cut off his ear – Felix Rey. The story goes: Van Gogh could only afford to pay Felix Rey with the painting. Felix Rey’s mother used the painting to cover up a hole in their chicken coup. For Lily and Sulaika, the colours of the painting were vivid, the plot of the story ironic, the outcome of the painter’s fate extraordinary – “Felix Rey” it must be!

Lily and Sulaika have background in finance and fashion respectively. After graduating from Georgetown University, Lily joined the ranks of pinstripes and presentations at an investment bank, Sulaika, after graduating from FIT and NYU, began her career at Donna Karan Company in Collection Design, the best design training a girl could have. They joined forces and opted for doing what they love most – running their own enterprise as self-made fashionistas! It has been the answer to all their dreams; their own colourful company, achieving their goals, and all the handbags a girl could want...
